How Do You Print Double-Sided On an HP Printer?

You must try hard to get double-sided printouts, but for that, you need first to check whether your printer supports automatic duplexing or not. If your printer does not support automatic duplexing, then you will have to manually set it up and make specific changes in the settings for duplex printing. Here is how you can set up or manage the settings for dual-side printing.

Go to the print settings and set up for the duplex print job, load the sheets of white paper in the tray to print, select and open the document you want to print double and choose the option for "two-sided" from the print dialogue box.

If your printer supports automatic duplexing, you will find two two-sided displays. Further, click on the option that will print, and you are done. You can enjoy double-sided printing.

Phase 1: Set up the Dual Side Print Job

Step 1: Open the document print settings and set up the duplex print job.

Step 2: Make sure that there is no page ordering issues while printing. So, load enough blank paper into the printer input tray and fully complete your print job.

Step 3: Open the document you want the HP printer to print double-sided. If required, click Print >> File >> Show Details.

Step 4: Select the Two-Sided option from the print dialogue box.

If you find two-sided displays, your printer will support automatic duplexing. Tick the checkbox and click the Layout option under the unnamed print options menu. Under the Two-Sided menu, select a binding option and then click on Print.

If the Two-Sided option isn't available, continue with the following steps and manually print on both sides of the document.

Step 5: Select the type of your printer paper tray and click over the Continue button to jump to the next step.

Step 6: From the unnamed menu shown at the centre of the window, select the Paper Handling option. Click on Odd Only from the Pages to Print menu.

Step 7: Based on your printer type, select one of the below settings from the Page Order menu:

  • Rear loading paper tray: Select Automatic
  • Front loading paper tray: Select Reverse

Step 8: Lastly, Click the Print button.

Step 9: Once all the pages are printed successfully, remove extra unprinted paper remaining from the input tray. Next, continue to the next step.

Phase 2: Print the Other Side of Your Document Pages

Next, print the other side of the document and reload the page bundle into the input tray. According to printer type, check the printer type, the number of pages you have loaded and the print settings.

For Rear Loading Paper Input Tray-

  • To make the HP printer print double-sided, choose the document type as a booklet or like a tablet. Reload print pages into the input tray and set up the print job function.
  • Choose how you want to read the two-sided document, like a booklet (flip pages along the long edge) or a tablet (flip pages on the short top edge).
  • Next, remove the first side pages from the output tray. Further, tap the stack on a flat surface in order to align the pages, and then correctly load them into the input tray.
  • For booklet mode reading, flip the pages so that the printed side is facing down and load them top edge down.
  • For tablet mode reading, flip the pages over so that the printed side is facing down and load them top edge up.
  • Next, return to the Print menu of the document and select Even Only from the Pages to Print menu.
  • Select Automatic type from the Page Order menu.
  • Lastly, select the Print option.

For Front Loading Paper Input Tray-

  • In order to print the next side, select whether you wish to read the document like a booklet or like a tablet. Likewise, reload the pages in the input tray, and set up the print job function using the software.
  • Choose if you want to read the two-sided document just like a booklet (flip pages along the long edge) or like a tablet (flip pages on the short top edge).
  • Ensure that you remove the first side pages from the output tray. Reload them into the input tray.
  • For booklet mode reading, load the pages in the tray with the printed side facing up and the top edge going into the printer.
  • For tablet-type reading, load the pages with the printed side facing up and the bottom edge going into the printer tray.
  • Next, return to the Print menu of the document and select the Even Only option from the Pages to Print menu.
  • Finally, choose Normal from the Page Order menu and click Print option.
