Get HP Printer to Recognize Refilled Cartridge:

Printer not recognizing new ink cartridges is one of the most common errors that users come across when they replace the old ink cartridge with a new one. This error generally occurs when you replace generic, remanufactured, or compatible ink cartridges.

Here, we are available with different methods to help you fix this issue.

1) Reset Internal Memory

Your printer device should recognize the new cartridge automatically the moment you install it. Also, it should reset the internal memory to make sure that it is showing full toner and ink levels. Nevertheless, your printer sometimes doesn't do the reset properly and thinks that no new cartridge has been inserted.

Mentioned below are the steps that you need to perform in order to reset your printer's memory.

Step 1: Remove the new ink cartridge and replace it with the old cartridge. Leave your printer for a while and do something else for the next 10 minutes.

Step 2: Now replace the old ink cartridge with the new one. This alone will fix the cartridge not recognized error but if the error still persists, then continue with the steps below.

Step 3: Take out the new cartridge. Please ensure that it is clean and it was not kept on a surface where it can get damaged.

Step 4: Use the power button to turn off your printer.

Step 5: Disconnect your printer from the power source. Leave your printer like this for the next 10 minutes.

Step 6: Reconnect your printer to the power source.

Step 7: Now, try inserting the new cartridge.

Step 8: After that, turn on your printer by pressing the power button.

2) Remove the Protective Strips

In case you have not removed the protective covering or strips on the cartridge when you took it out of the packaging, then the printer will not be able to register the new cartridges and this will lead to further problems.

Remove the cartridge from your printer and ensure that all the plastic covers, tabs, and strips are removed prior to reinstalling the cartridge.

3) Remove any Incorrect Consumable Installed

This rarely happens but this can also lead to an error. One can install the toner ink in the wrong slot or buy the wrong cartridge for your printer.  Additionally, if a fuser or toner was purchased by mistake in place of a toner cartridge and installed without a toner, then your printer will not function.

Remove all the cartridges from the printer and ensure that they are in the right color slots. Also, make sure that the needed cartridges are present. If they are not in the right slot, then reinstall them and turn off the printer.

4) Insert the Cartridges in the Slots Properly

There is a chance that the ink cartridge was not placed properly in the designated slot, which is why your printer machine fails to recognize the newly inserted cartridge and shows the error message. To fix this issue, you need to lift the cover of your cartridge again and make sure that all the cartridges are rightly clicked in their places.

After that, close the cover and try once again. If you are using toners, then even the broken parts of plastic can cause the toner to not fit into the slot properly. In such a case, you will have to replace the toner to solve the problem.

5) Cartridge Protection is Turned On

It is imperative to update the firmware frequently and there is a chance that you installed an update to turn on cartridge protection. If you do so, then you will not be able to use the same cartridges in any other printer.

Enabling cartridge protection does not allow compatibles to work with your machine. To fix this problem, you need to turn off cartridge protection.

So, this is how you get HP printer to recognize the refilled cartridge.
