Step 1: Lift the scanner cover through the open position with both hands using the finger grips on either side of the device.

Step 2: Examine the machine's left (2) and front (3) hand corners as well as its centre with great care, and discard any paper scraps and other foreign objects that may be stuck there.

Step 3: One of two reasons will usually cause the message "Unable to Initiate" with a two-digit code to display. It appears that there is either a mechanical issue or a foreign object—like a paper clip or torn piece of paper—stuck inside the machine.
