Install Black Cartridge Error in HP Printer:

When you attempt to print, the printer's attention light blinks, or an Install Black Cartridge error message appears on the computer or printer control panel. This error message suggests that either the toner cartridge that must be installed is not authentic or is not recognised because of an obstacle.

To avoid seeing this message, install a toner cartridge.

Follow these steps to resolve the issue if the message appears and a toner cartridge is installed.

Step 1: Use Toner Cartridges Made by HP

HP advises using original HP toner or ink cartridges. The dependability or quality of non-HP or refilled cartridges cannot be guaranteed by HP. Using non-genuine HP cartridges may prevent the issue from being resolved by following this document's instructions. Visit the HP anti-counterfeit webpage to verify the authenticity of your cartridges.

  • Get additional supplies and replacement cartridges from nearby stores or the HP Store.
  • Proceed to the next step if using genuine HP toner supplies does not fix the problem.

Step 2: Look for Paper and Packing Supplies

Examine the packing materials and paper inside the printer and toner cartridge to see if they are the source of the error message.

  • Switch off the printer.
  • Cut off the printer's power supply.
  • Lift the door of the toner cartridge.
  • Find and remove any packing materials, like cardboard, tape, or broken paper.
  • Take out the toner cartridge.
  • Inside the toner cartridge area, look for and Remove any more packing material or paper debris.
  • Look for and take off the orange toner cartridge tab.
  • Look for and remove the protective sealing tape from the toner cartridge.
  • Pull the tab away from the toner cartridge and dispose of it to remove the protective sealing tape.
  • To ensure the toner is evenly distributed, gently rock the cartridge from front to back.
  • Shut the toner cartridge door after placing the toner cartridge into the printer.
  • After reattaching the power cord, switch on the printer.

Proceed to the next step if finding and eliminating packing materials and paper did not fix the problem.

Step 3: Check the HP Printer for Any More Stuck Paper

The error message could be caused by debris or jammed paper. The error message might disappear if you check other parts of the printer where jammed paper happens.

Visit HP Customer Support for comprehensive instructions on removing a paper jam from your printer. Search for "paper jam" under the Troubleshooting tab after entering the model number of your printer.

Proceed to the next step if you cannot locate a paper jam or if removing any extra paper does not fix the problem.

Step 4: Make Sure the Toner Cartridge's Electric Contacts are Clean

  • Lift the access door for the toner cartridge.
  • The toner cartridge should be taken out of its slot.
  • Wipe the toner cartridge contact (E-label) on the upper left corner of the cartridge with a lint-free cloth.

Step 5: Restart the HP Printer.

There may occasionally be no packing material or jammed paper inside the printer, but the error message still appears. The error might be fixed by resetting the printer.

  • Disconnect the printer's power cord while it is turned on.
  • Take the power cord out of the outlet.
  • Hold on for 60 seconds.
  • Reattach the printer's power cord to the wall outlet.
  • Proceed to the next step if resetting the printer does not fix the problem.

Step 6: Change the Toner Cartridge

  • Replace the toner cartridge with an authentic HP cartridge if the measures above were ineffective in fixing the problem.
  • Proceed to the next step if changing the toner cartridge did not fix the problem.
